Indoor Nats/USIC
The recent 2005 Indoor Nats/U.S. Indoor Champs enjoyed a 40% boost in
attendance over last year. E. Tenn. State Universityıs new scoreboard, which
some feared would be the demise of the site, turned out to be less of a
problem than anticipated, according to reports that I received.
It was inevitable that several models wound up in or on the scoreboard, but
contestant consensus was to return next year.
Hank Nystrom, a Johnson City resident and former NFFS ex-membership
chairman, spent considerable time and effort in publicizing the event in the
local media. His efforts attracted many spectators. Hank is also working
with the university to improve the scoreboard situation for next yearıs
contest.
I want to thank Abram Van Dover for his fine job as contest director over
the past several years. Abram will be turning over the CD responsibilities
to someone else next year. (I think he just wants to fly). I also want to
thank all of the volunteers that helped make the Indoor Nats/USIC 2005 a
success.
Muncie

By the time you read this, the Outdoor Nats/USOC at Muncie (Aug. 1-5) will
be right around the corner. If you don't plan to attend. But have items for

Make you plans to attend all of the non-flying functions of the NFFS at
Muncie:
Sunday July 31 - Pre-Nats Jr. FAI Team Selection contest; 3 p.m.-dark, the big Swap Meet at the headquarters farmhouse.
Wednesday evening (Aug. 3) - Annual NFFS awards banquet at the Convention Center (downtown). Get your tickets early, as Tuesday noon will be the cutoff for buying tickets.
Thursday evening (Aug. 4) - The annual Texas Timers/NFFS cookout. It features the NFFS Scholarship raffle/auction. Last year the raffle/auction added $3,500 to our scholarship fund. The most recent winners were announced in the May 2005 Digest. Come have some fun, free food and help our deserving young people. You can buy your raffle tickets at the NFFS tent the first four days of the Nats.
As I write this (June 24, 2005), the NFFS membership campaign has already brought in 107 new members. Iıll close by reminding you to sign up at least one new member this year.
