Results:  62nd Midwestern States Championships, 43rd Fall Oldtimers and 45th FAI Invitational Contests.  August 27-28, 2005.  Muncie, Indiana.

The Chicago Aeronuts sponsored annual weekend at the AMA’s International Aeromodeling Center attracted 42 contestants from 12 States and one Canadian Province.  The conditions for Free Flight over the weekend were much better than the forecast had indicated.   Winds were generally light and the only rain came early on Saturday morning well before the eight o’clock starting time.  Because of the favorable conditions, the contestants were able to record a total of 443 official flights.

Many thanks to Bob Johnson who directed the Oldtimer and Nostalgia events, Charlie Sotich who recorded and totaled all the flight scores and Jerry Keith who helped with registration and collecting entry fees.

Four of the six FAI events went to fly-offs before the winners were decided.   In F1G, Fred Blom won the fly-off over John Clapp by making the 5-minute max.  Both flyers agreed to go directly to a long flight so that the chances of settling the contest would be improved.   In F1J, the fly-off was essentially settled on the first 3-minute flight because Jim Haught’s model landed in the corn under the power lines where his locator radio was compromised.   By the time he made it back to finish the contest, he was too exhausted to make the next flight.  For the F1B fly-off, Greg Simon edged out Paul Crowley and Dave Lacey for first.  Paul would have made the 5-minute max, but his model stalled in the glide.   In F1C, only Norman Poti made the 5-minute max to win the fly-off.

In AMA gas, Keith Fulmer again showed the way in ˝-A by putting up 8 max flights before dropping the 9th.  His score was chased by Norman Poti who did much of his flying in between F1J rounds and after the fly-offs.  It appeared he flew the same model in both events.  Jack Marsh outlasted Guy Scott in B-gas with 6 maxes.

Oldtimer large rubber was won by John Clapp with a Korda model.  Ed Konefes put up three maxes (2-, 3-, and 4-minutes) in Nostalgia Rubber with a Hoffmeister Stick model.

Charlie Harper won Nostalgia B with three maxes using a Ramrod 600 and Gene Wicks won Nostalgia C with a T-bird and three maxes.
