The modern class nomenclature (F1A etc) is used throughout the results for ease of consistent presentation, although these were not in use from the beginning – I apologise to the historical purists!

The names of nations are as accurate as possible although standardisation may result in some political inaccuracies (e.g. RSA may be used for South Africa in events before it took Republic status)

In some cases there may be some question about the official championships status of the events. This has been resolved as far as possible taking into account available official CIAM documents and press reports at the time.

There may be some inaccuracies in some of the earlier results. There are also some gaps in the data, and your help is requested in filling these, specifically:

World Championships:
Any Indoor before 1961 missing.

European Championships F1A F1B F1C:
Any events before 1970 are listed on Unoffical Championships page. Events not listed there are missing, but note that CIAM documents suggest the first events recognised as European Championships within CIAM were those in 1972. However the entry form of the 1970 F1A F1B event claims that the event had been recognised as a European Championships.

European Championships F1E: Some events before 1979 may be missing. Events before 1970 are listed on Unoffical Championships page.
