    I talked to Bob DeShields and he is going to measure his 1/2A Zero. He thinks his was set up 1/4 inch back from the c.g. location shown on the plans. Give him a couple of days to get the info back to you. Bob has built more Zero’s then anyone other then Toshi. Bob used to fly with Toshi. Is the Zero already built and what plan did you use? Bob had written a how to trim the Zero article for the Digest about 8-9 years ago.

    Thank you for the response. Yes the model is already built it was given to me by a friend that is moving and he never trimmed it. I have no idea what plan was used.

    Scott I will ask Bob to give you all the trim settings he uses. Warps, incidence, C.G. etc.

    So of the 3 different 1/2a Zero plans I have, they have the following;
    BMJR- 2 3/4″
    NFFS – 2 3/4″
    Modelcraft – 2 7/8″ (with a note that says the CG should be between 2 3/4 to 3 1/4).

    Bob DeShields Zero trim settings c.g. is 2.4 inches forward of the trailing edge. No engine thrust adjustments at all. stab flat, wing tips flat, Now you have to decide if you want a right climb and left glide circle or a left climb with left glide circle. Bob prefers the right climb and left glide circle because all his models are set up that way. this setup takes the guess work out of trying to remember which direction to launch the model. If you use right climb you put in 3/32 washout on the right inboard panel. if you want a left climb you add 3/32 wash in on the left inboard panel. To check the incidence hand glide the model with a hard downward motion and if the nose pulls up you are ready to test fly. First test flight run the motor at 3/4 power for 4 seconds. Check the pattern, if everything looks o.k. increase motor run on next flights with more power

    Thank you for getting the trim setup information from Bob. It is nice having a proven setup base line to start with. The Zero is my 1st HTL model trimming attempt and my trim ideas were in the ball park but having Bobs information is a great help.
