InactiveOliver, a young up and coming F1A jr asked me about wing wigglers. Art Ellis and I had help him to set up a modern mechanical bunter. I set him up with a M&K mechanical that was equiped with 3 position wing wiggler.
He had gotten some advive from Andrew Barron that a 2 position wing wiggler would be much easier and quicker to adjust.
I will post my adice to Oliver.

InactiveI assume you are thinking of exchanging the 3 Pos WW with a 2 Pos WW?
2 Pos WW are certainly easier to adjust. they are adequate for calm conditions and moderate speed launch.
What you gain by learning how to adjust and care (they must be kept clean) is the ability to do smaller circle tows– ie better model control while towing in the wind and the ability to fly a straighter, higher speed launch / bunt.
Some can get high speed bunt launches with a 2pos WW. They generally run lower wash-in during the tow-staright phase– usually they need to do much more “jerking the model around the bottom corner while circle towing. it is a more “loopy” style. This wash-in is determined by carefully observing if the model is rolling to the left at high speed– if it is rolling left- need to decrease tow wash-in. This can be somewhat offset by “zoom rudder” (careful- too much can get you in real trouble in the wind!
I understand Andrews recommendation– it depends on how you wish to fly this model.
My advice is that as you grow, get faster and stronger, you’ll want to launch higher. The 3 position WW will come into it’s own at that time. Before you do a swap, take some time to understand how to adjust the 3 Pos WW- I admit it is not easy- many seniors have given up. I believe you can figure it out. If you want some help, I’ll enlarge a dwg of the 3 Pos WW and label the function and give you the key areas to watch out for.
Continued good flying,

InactiveOliver is get a 2 position WW so it looks like he is going with Andrews advice. That’s OK but I hope he remembers the reasoning / compromise.

ParticipantHi Jim,
Currently, I think the 2 position WW would be a better starting point for me since I’m a beginner, but in the future, I will switch back to the 3 position WW.

InactiveI’m with Oliver on this one…being new to wing wigglers, I’ll need some graphic help on workshop trimming prior to setting up the first flight. Jim, you said you had drawings for the three posit wiggler? Two posit? At this stage of the game, being able to fly a tight circle tow in wind is the next step and perhaps then to stronger bunt launches.
