ParticipantWell it should be about time to open up the discussions and ideas about this years (2008) one design plane RAMROD 250. I built mine last year to get a jump on trimming and engine selection(Medallion). Pic attached. What are the masses doing for this competition this year?

ParticipantI just received my entry forms for the Nats this year and I’m a little confused on the alowed power for this years one design competition! Reading the rules for the 2008 Ramrod 250 one design it states any nos. legal engine! But on the Nats entry form there is an astrick next to the listing and that states 049-051 nos and TD 049-051 engines! Can anyone tell me which it is?
Thanks,
Scott

InactiveMost of the time, if the design was flown in later years with a TD engine, Bill allows both NOS and TD engines for the One Design Event. In the NFFS main site, under one design, you will notice that the 2007 “mini Pearl” was flown with both, and the 2010 event for the Country Boy shows both.

ParticipantGo to the One Design section under the drop down menu on the NFFS Home Page.
Under 2008 and the Ramrod, it specifies that any Nostalgia Legal engine may be used. That means, no Tee Dee’s.

ParticipantHi all, I have the short kit from Jim O’Reily/Bob Holman and the full kit from Lee Cambell. Of course there’s quite a bit of difference in the two with the Cambell model having sliced ribs. The short kit form O’Reily is conventional and will be an easy build. However the Cambell kit’s wing and stab are sliced ribs and the directions from Lee are pretty limited. Apperently the original was built with sliced ribs and Cambell’s kit refers back to the original MAN instruction article. How do I lay my hands on the construction article? Do any of you know? Thanks in advance, Ralph ❓

KeymasterRalph,
I believe that MAN articile on the Ramrod 250 was reproduced in a NFFS Digest a couple years ago. I will take a look and see if I can find the month and year.03/02/2008 at 1:17 am #45350Ralph Hotz

Unfortunately I didn’t get back flying again till a year or two ago and don’t have the NFFS publications but I bet someone will help me find the proper one. Again, many thanks, Ralph 😀

Thanks so much Jim. If you would send it to me in either format I would appreciate it. I’ll contact you off list. Again thanks to you all. I will keep everyone posted with my progress. I’m going to build both versions-O’Riely/Holman & the original from Lee Cambell and will keep the forum posted as to progress. 😀

ParticipantOldfreeflighter, I built mine per the Campbell kit and everything went together perfectly! Finished weight was 6/6 ozs. Trimmed in less than 4 test flights. It is a great flying plane!

ParticipantHere’s my completed Campbells’ kit. Which prop do you guys like for the Medallion .049?

ParticipantPictures on the site show great models. Did any of you have any concerns about the 1/16 stick stock for the bottem of the stab and wing ribs? Did you just use very hard sticks? My contest sticks seem like they’d be way to weak. Thanks for all the help? Ralph

ParticipantChris, sweeeeeet looking plane! My pwr. plant is a Medallion and after a no. of weekends testing I finalized on the Cox 5 1/2 x 4 prop. It pulls really well with no hesitation. Ralph as far as the 1/16 balsa for the wing and stab construction. The material supplied in the Campbell kit was perfect. It is not your really light contest grade but it is not the very dense stuff you find at Hobby Lobby and similar stores. Look for good straight grain wood and it will work fine.
