ParticipantAs many know, my son and I drag race. Well, with somewhat smaller fields, there has been a developement that is called a “buy back”. This is for people that lose first round. They can go and pay a new entry fee and go into the second round. It is basically a second chance.
So, what I am proposing is the ability to “buy back” at a contest. Please think only AMA or NFFS events, not FAI. Let’s say you do crummy but determined what your problem is. You can then re-enter that event, but your previous time is voided. It is like a do-over…
This could make more money for the contest plus give the flyer a second chance.
What do ya think????
Me, I like it….

ParticipantWe were allowing re-entries in some local contests in England 30-35 years ago .. maybe more … but mostly limited the number of times a flyer could do so to prevent the ‘buy the way to victory’ syndrome – either by offering only one re-entry or else doubling the entry fee every time a person re-entered.

ParticipantThis would tend to delay “Miller Time”

ParticipantFrom what I recall, “ANY TIME” is Miller time…..

InactiveWe do unlimited entry at our Turkey Shoot Contest to see who can get the longest string of Maxes.
It is fun, and usually raises enough money to pay for the turkey as prize. That is to say if there are enough turkey’s re-entering!

ParticipantI would like to see this at almost any contest. Probably many wouldn’t take advantage of it, but think….You could show up with only one plane, and fly it all day, hopefully improving as you go. This would be a great way to trim a model in contest conditions.
Maybe we need to do it with a six pack for the winner….I see Bill number one in line!! I have to admit that Shailor Miller beer is probably someof the best in the country……

ParticipantI think you have a great idea here. Doc Martin’s MIAMA Indoor (Always Capitalize) club had that policy for years. The re-entry, not the beer. 😀

ParticipantWhile I like the idea, I bet it would give the National Cup boys fits. What do you guys have against crashing early, riding the dirt bike and drinking beer? 😀

ParticipantOnce again, my great friend Bill brings up a good point- D%@# National Cup….What I would say to this is, if you re-enter, you do not get the points. It would only be for the contest win….Of course, if everyone did it, then it wouldn’t matter as everyone would have the chance to upgrade their points. But, I don’t think everyone would go for that- So, just get no points….
It IS Miller time, here in Wisconsin!!

ParticipantWhen I drop a flight, I pull out another plane and move on to another event. At a 2 day meet, I can do this about 6 times. Each day. Am I the only one who does this? I am always maxed out with the entry fee. When I ask the CD how much the entry fee is, they often ask ‘well, how many events are you going to fly? ‘ My response? “a lot”. I don’t see the point of re-flying.

I complete my flights before moving on to another event, regardless of where I place in the results; that’s what I signed into it for – it’s not a case of ‘if I can’t win I ain’t gonna fly no more’ .. and anyway, others may well drop flights, too, so the final outcome can still be in doubt.
