Just finished a Class A T-Bird and it came in at 25 oz. Is that about right? I’ve built a 1/4a, 1/2a and this A (K&B .19) In each case I’ve had to add weight in the tail. With the Class A ship it was 26 grams! Anything out of line here?

My 525 T-Bird, from an excellent Campbell kit, came out at 22 oz. originally. It too took quite a bit of tail weight but that was included in the 22 oz. Now, with repairs and reinforcing, it is about 26 oz.

    Flies with an OS MAX .19 and K & B .23

With the T-Bird, I have found that you want the firewall right up under the wing LE. Also use a radial mount attached to the backplate instead of the radial/beam mounts that are pedaled here and there for the rc folks. I learned to make my own. Easy with aluminum plate and hole saws.

That weight is OK. Mine was 22 oz but with repair it is now 25.

I also added quite a bit of tail weight.

T-Birds need the shortest nose you can get away with. The firewall needs to be up under the wing LE.

I also use radial mounts made with alum plate and hole saws.

I might try to upload pictures of the T-Bird after Christmas. I remember someone (Flydean?) they had problems adding pictures. What the heck, I’ll give it a try.

This is a T-Bird from a Lee Campbell kit.
