InactiveAs a newbie (on this forum at least) could someone point me towards a summary of what is (or will be) Classic Power?
Thanks
John02/24/2007 at 12:29 am #44034DAN BERRY
ParticipantIts a true FF gas plane with no auto- surfaces. DT only.

InactiveIs there a defined period that denotes Classic? – e.g starting at the Nostalgia cut-off, and ending a decade later?

ParticipantJohn, there are no cut-off dates or requirements – other than no moving surfaces other than d/t operation. In other words – ‘ locked up ‘

Jim has it correct. Any engine, and any plane design from any era. Just no moving surfaces during the flight. DT is all.

InactiveThanks guys, I’m in!
Now, who’s holding Classic Power (sorry, Gas) contests?
John02/26/2007 at 9:21 pm #44039Timer Guy
ParticipantList of contests is in this (NFFS) web site. Classic is under AMA rules, so virtually all contests will inlcude Classsic events.

InactiveClassic Power is NOT an AMA event. It is a NFFS event.
But you can fly a Classic Power Model in any AMA power event if you want to.
It is usually only the large contests that have separate Classic Power events, like the Nationals.
I was talking to some F1C flyers about the proliferation of events. It was suggested that we have separate F1C events for direct drive engines with non folding wings, direct drive with folding wings, geared drive with non-folding wings, and geared drive with folding wings. That way we could get all of the events down to a bare minimum of participants so that everyone could get a prize for showing up. And that was not even breaking down the locked verses non locked versions. After all, this would break up the monotony of only one F1C event after all of these years.
From an event happy power flyer of sorts.

InactiveAfter shooting off my comment, I looked in the current AMA rule book, and sure enough they have 101C which is 1/2A classic and 101 which is 1/2A AMA gas, etc.
Sorry about that. There still are too many power events for local contests.

ParticipantDave,
Apparantly you missed the discussion regarding 2, 3, and 4 bladed props on F1C ships at the Max Men. Just thought I’d throw that out in the interests of completeness and to put a fine point on it.
Cheers!P.S. You must have been fooling around with rubber models or gliders while this was going on. P.

ParticipantDave, if you will look more carefully, you will see AMA has 101C, 102C-103C, and 104C-105C. These are Classic Power under AMA rules. So, all power events can be flown either as lock down or with full wiggle.
You gve me cardiac arrest and will be getting a bill from the hospital and doctor. Sure you understand.
I am mostly right most of the time, but never in doubt. 😛

InactiveHello Hank
Don’t take these things so seriously!
It is only toy model airplanes for old guys who think they are kids playing fly and seek!
Yeh, the other categories were included in the etc.
I will have to look at my old set of rules to see if I was always wrong, or just newly wrong?
Pete has a point with the 2, 3, and 4 bladed props. Wow, could we ever proliferate then. Then we could do folding and non folding propeller events for each of those sizes.

I think it was the capital NOT that got to me. And the etc. did not fully address the correction.

InactiveGuys,
Come now, come now! talk of geared engines (granted someone tried it in 1965), folding props, and variable geometry aircraft is not consistent with the term ‘Classic’ 😉 .
A F1C rules debate belongs elsewhere, though ‘Classic F1C’ which would, for me at least, be pre-Rossi (i.e. pre 1970) – now, I would be interested in that!
The number of classes seems to be proliferating in a manner inversely proportional to the numbers taking part, so we need a way of all being able to fly in one contest, with a way of levelling the flying field for lower tech.
John
p.s I’m new to this forum so be nice to my ideas 😮 .02/28/2007 at 3:00 am #44047Anonymous
InactiveHello John
Unfortunately the contests are being leveled more each year.
But the great part is that no matter what event, you fly, you have fun, and most likely you win because there just ain’t that may entrees.
