On Dec. 5 and 6 we have the Arizona Championships in Eloy, Arizona. This is the last America’s Cup and National Cup contest West of the Missisippi for the year 2009. There are AMA, NFFS, SAM, and FAI events. To download the 2 fliers for the AZ Champs go to http://www.freeflight.org/competition/master_contest_calendar.htm and click on the blue “AZ FF Champs” or the “FAI”. It should be cool in the mornings but will warm up to about 70° during the day.

For information on the 2010 Soutwest Regional Model Airplane Championships in January in Eloy go to http://www.aalmps.com/10info.htm – please use the Entry Form to pre-enter. This will be the 60th SWR!

Please come and fly with us, Peter Brocks

    Peter,

As I recall, it is possible to use a car for model pick-up, out to a limiting distance where there are ditch crossings for motorcycles. Is this still the case?
Retrieval on foot is another option, and is okay for me if the distance is not too far due to wind.

    Dick,

The concrete ditches in Eloy are 1/2 a mile apart. There are quite a few ‘crossovers’ over these ditches that can be used retrieving on foot or by motorcycle. Retrieving by car at the AZ Champs or the SWR is not ok – except when the retrieval is in a North or South direction. Then one can drive out on Toltec Road and get closer to the model. Up to a wind speed of about 10mph retrieval on foot should not be a problem (approx..5 miles to model). Unfortunately our club does not have extra retrieval bikes.

    Peter
