I have just completed my small fuselage rubber model “Double Feature”
The recommended motor for it is 18 strands of 1/8″ 36″ long. The rear peg to prop length is 27″, I am guessing I need to braid the motor. Should I braid it to 27″ long? Is 9″ too much slack to try to take out with braiding? If anyone has experience with this model what motor did you use?
    Thanks
    Ed

I have models with motors with greater slack which is taken up comfortably by means of the spring prop-stop system which I use on freewheelers and folders. Adjusted, it leaves just enough turns on the motor to keep it fairly taut between hook and peg, turns which – at the end of the run – do little or nothing for duration.

    Hi Jim:
How does the spring stop work with a freewheeler? I’ve got to figure out some sort of system for a Verdier Wakefield that I am building. Do you have a photo?

same system as with a folder other than a cup washer soldered to the shaft to accept the front end of the spring, thus allowing the prop to revolve freely without any pressure upon it[/img]

Thanks Jim — the pictures make it all very clear. Is regular lead solder okay? (I don’t know if you can still buy it, but I have some.) Or do you silver solder?

Think the lead solder should be fine

So how does the Double Feature fly in comparison to other OT Small Fuselage candidates?

    Randy,
The Double Feature is a very good flying model. You will find it at the top of many contest results. This years Sam Champs winner was a Crusader with Double Feature finishing second.

Thanks Ed, Jim O’Reilly recommended it as a good candidate that could fly in both OT Small Fuselage and a part time Moffet in our local MMM contests. I have a short kit on the way and will try to post some pictures here when finished. I am aware that it wouldn’t be the best Moffet choice but that’s OK it’s just for fun.
