InactiveI think I’ve read here about using fuse DT on an electric. What are the other alternatives? I have a Bauer RCDT system just received is it applicable? A viscous timer with a “mousetrap” might be practical??

ParticipantMost of us are using a servo-deiven dt rig. you’ve already got an electronic timer and a battery. A servo can be done for about 4-8 gms.

InactiveDan,
I just ordered the Maverick kit and powerpack so perhaps that will be detailed on the plans. Is a mousetrap required for the DT servo sysrem?
BTW when you come to Colorado this year perhaps we’ll be able to fly TLG and Electric as well. I’m sure you’ll be wanting one minute maxes in TLG and that’s OK.

ParticipantI use a mousetrap to isolate the line tension from the servo arm.
Jim just hooks a loop over the arm, but he’s not very good with electric planes! 😆I haven’t given up on a Colorado trip.
I don’t wanta fly HLG at 60 sec maxes.05/21/2009 at 1:42 am #47377Anonymous
InactiveDan, The rest of us will be flying 2 minute maxes but since you’re not used to high altitude you’ll need a 1 minute handicap :0)
Would you happen to have a picture of the mousetrap or is it basically the same as what Gene Smith uses?

ParticipantRandy,
If you will go to “Pete Reinhart’s Model”
under the general Electric Free Flight” section and look at the second picture down you will see how the moustrap force multi plier is rigged.
Note thoughthat the rubber band goping forwsrd to the skid is diconnected for flight, it’s only for storage.
Hope this helps.
And, yeah, Dan sure needs that 1 minute handicap. Uh huh, Yeah.

InactiveOk, Pete, Thanks!

ParticipantSame rig as Pete’s. I cut off 3 arms on the servo thingy so as to only have one to deal with.

ParticipantRandy,
Yes, the Bauer RCDT unit is applicable. Radio DT is legal in free flight competition.Which Bauer system do you have? One works with an electronic flight timer; the other is a stand-alone system with it’s own battery, receiver, and servo. I have the former. In any case, I can help you.

InactiveSeems like there are several options to be sure. Dick, my RDT is a stand alone system and I still need to acquire the servo. It certainly should work with Jim’s direct servo method so I’ll look into that type of servo which I would have to believe has quite a bit more torque than the typical sub micro model suggested for RDT.
Looks like a lot of help available for someone just starting out in Electric FF for which I’m grateful.
Pete, you were in Colorado last year and had the problem with the chase bike I believe. I didn’t know at the time that you were flying electric or I would have checked out your model.

ParticipantRandy,
Right you are. I hit one of those big ruts, fell off the bike and jammed my arm bad enough I couldn’t fly the next day.
The model I was flying there is the one in the pix. I made a mistake on the 3rd flight and the model went on a 60 mile cross country. I got it back in near perfect condition a month later. It was maxing easily. Too bad we missed connections.

InactiveHi Pete, hopefully you can make it out to Colorado again this year and we can both wheel Dan into the glider pen.
I would be great to see more than one or two electrics going. We have a big enough field to allow them to let out their legs although a 40 mile retrieve is a bit much.

InactiveIs it possible to use the RDT in conjunction with the Timer?
05/24/2009 at 8:48 pm #47387DAN BERRY
ParticipantI’m certain that you could use the timer for shutting down the motor and then use the remote control device for the dt.
Why would you use anything but the remote control rig if you had it on the plane? -
