ParticipantIn the early 70’s I remember a friend from then was flying an all sheet balsa Eindecker. Just purely a sport model but it was fun. My thought was it was kitted by Competition Models but whoever it was I have so far been unable to locate any information about it. Can’t even find it in an ad in the magazines from the time.
Anybody think they can help?03/31/2007 at 1:15 pm #44250RANDALL RYAN
ParticipantWell, I remember it, I even built one and yes it was but Competition Models. I’ll bet Sal Taibi could give the details on it. There was also an SST solid sheet sport flier. Neat little models to play with.

ParticipantThanks, I knew I was crazy but I knew that particular airplane existed. I’ll get in touch with Sal on this. Maybe he can set me on the right path to obtain patterns and plans.
I built the SST and from what I remember it didn’t come close. Sort of a lazy barely stay in the air floating maneuver with it’s “powerful” .02 “turbine”.04/02/2007 at 12:22 am #44252RANDALL RYAN

That’s strange, one of the guys in our then club built one that flew pretty well. It would fly big flat circles climbing about 30 feet each time around.

ParticipantRandy, if you happen to find a set of plans, deal me in! I had one a LONG time ago and it may be fun to make another one…Let’s see….Bunt, Cyclon on pressure and flood off, two step glide, carbon….That would be fun!!
Or, a Pee Wee .02 with a silver dope finish….Yup, I could handle that

ParticipantSorry about that. Maybe the SST flew quite well, what I actually built was the B-70 Valkyrie. It was quite large but maybe it was too heavy. Didn’t pay much attention to weight back then. I just dug out the B-70 plans and have a letter on the way to Sal Taibi to see if he can still provide patterns and plans for the Eindecker and SST. Was the SST definitely a Competition Models product ? I know the B-70 was.

ParticipantSorry, I don’t have plans for any of them.
Golly, I think the B-70 is what I called SST.

ParticipantThe Competition Eindecker kits have been on Ebay once in a while, keep your eye out for one. Had one a while back but sold it . I now have a box of at least 50 of the decal sets for that model if any one is interested. Glenn Schneider

ParticipantIf I remember correctly, the B70 and a Cox 020 as flown by Mike Fedor are responsible for a rules change regarding Peanut Scale. Seems that the original rules didn’t specify ‘rubber powered’.

ParticipantThat Peanut debacle was true. It was either a smaller version of the Competition model or more likely an original design. The Competition plan has a 21 inch span so a 13 inch version would be hot. Might have to build one of each and find out.
Thanks for the info on the plan. Letter was already on the way to Sal so we’ll see what his input is about all the Competition Models designs. -
