The AMA website lists six Rules Proposals related to Electric Free Flight. They are all found under Outdoor Free Flight for the 2011 rules cycle.

Until today these proposals have not been viewable to the interested reader. A glitch in the AMA’s IT system caused most of the titles to link to one proposal; a document that dealt with flight attempts. The glitch has now been fixed, and all of the proposals are now separately readable.

By remarkable coincidence several of the proposals contain very close to the same rules change ideas. This is despite the fact the the documents were authored by different people at different times in the March/April period.

    Dick,
I believe that AMA requires three signatures on a rule change proposal, one which has to be a CD. A considerable effort, in my case, was required to get the other two signatures (“Don’t fly the event”/”You don’t fly the event”/”Signed proposals in the past that failed”/”Sorry – wasn’t my idea”).

I was told by Greg Hahn, AMA Technical Director, that signatures are no longer required.

In the AMA Competition Regulation book, under Rule Change Procedures, (page 4) states:
A formal proposal on a form obtained from AMA Headquarters and signed by three (3) AMA members (one of whom must be a contest director) is submitted before the September 1 deadline as shown in the schedule

Greg Hahn, has had his position for about a year. He has yet to master the rule making intricacies.

I’ll check with Greg Hahn again next week on the signature question. If his earlier advice was incorrect, the proposals will be resubmitted with signatures added. I have already talked several flyers about this. There is enough interest to get the signatures, no problem.

    Remarkable coincidence indeed. 8)

I checked again with Greg Hahn on the issue of rules change proposal signatures. He confirmed that three signatures are no longer required. This change came with the introduction of the new electronic proposal form, and is reflected in the current Competition Regulations under General Information on page 5:
….. rule proposals may be filed by any Open Class AMA member..

I believe that the regulation quoted by Aram in the above post comes from an older, outdated set of procedures.

I want to thank all those who agreed to have their names added to my two rules proposals. However, at this point, the signatures are not needed.
