    The SEN webpage has changed:

    http://www.faifreeflight.org/

    One can navigate from the “links” to get to the FAI FF rules. Here to save time.

    For completeness, on the FAI site,a correction to the F1P attempt rule with regard to engine rule. The new 7 sec engine run was not changed in the attempt rules. Ditto for the F1J, 5 sec engine run change:

    Technical Notice | 2008-03-03: F1J & F1P

    * Technical Notices

    2008 edition of the F1 Sporting Code.
    An error has been identified in rules 3.J.5 & 3.P.5. The rules should read as follows:

    3.J.5. b) The motor run exceeds 5 seconds from the release of the model.
    3.P.5. b) The motor run exceeds 7 seconds from the release of the model.

    These errors will be corrected in the 2009 edition of the Sporting Code.

    Thanks Jim. I am considering a gas model and thought that F1P would be a good entry point.

    Jim,

    Here’s Bob VanNest email. I’m not sure he may a couple of F1P AstroStar full or short kits. Something to see with a singing cyclon on the front end. Ask the juniors! JIM

    Does the min. wing area of 26dm2 or 403 square inches include the horzonal stab?

    Hi Jim, reading the model specs in the FAI rules book it states “wing area” so the stab is not counted as part of the 26 dm2 wing area, it’s extra!

    The area rules are different that most of the other FAI FF Classes. That’s why it is the wing not total surface area. This was part of the idea with the wing span constraint to keep the aspect ratio down so a wooden wing would work and composites not be necessary.

    As Jim mentioned the F1P Astro Star is the model to have in the all wood category. There is brief mention in SEN issue 1199 which can be found on the archive at http://www.faifreeflight.org. Bob Van nest at Norabobvan@cs.com has the the kits.

    Thanks guys. Wishful thinking on my part. I have an Astrostar kit. I also have a Maverick at 120% with a 392 sq. inch wing. I was looking for a little help from the stab. I suppose it will have to be an A model.
