Does any one have any experiences constructing gear boxes? Any advice on what to use for bearings? Where is a good place to purchase small gears?

Way back when, they, the free flight rubber guys used to make their own gears.

Often thought about building an old Wakefield with gears, but could never get that enthused.

Remember they used to make them from brass sheet—what a job that would be.

lf they were available, l may be interested in a set to build something from the 40s or 50s.

There are a wide variety of gear types and materials available from Small Parts Inc.. I would guess that Mc Master Carr also has a selection, but I haven’t checked..
Long ago I had a catalog from “Boston Gear”.
Lots of very nice light weight plastic gears out there, and of course if you wnted to go first class, you might contract with somone in the former eastern block to machine a custom set , metric of course, out of say, some exotic magnesium of titanium alloy.

    Cheers!
