InactiveAre these legal for nostalgia? I heard the plain breaing one was good to use. If so is Starduster 900 too big? I have a Ramrod 600 is that too small? Sorry to ask so many questions, but I do get some good answers. Dan

The first ball bearing version of the CS was set up for RC with an RC Carb. Timeing was set for RC and did not produce the power of the plain bearing version.
Until Fox got serious about their CS needle/ball bearing versions, Johnson was King for rat and combat in the ChicagoLand area. Johnson was much easier to start, hot restart, and to set the mixture for consistant runs.
I don’t remember about FF and Starduster 900, (it may have used a McCoy series 20 .60cu in). I only flew an original 1/2A starduster. I was about 19 at the time and had dreams of being the rat race/combat master of our area. Flew FF when there were no rat or combat contests that Sunday.

InactiveThanks for reply Tom. I always liked the looks of the CS in a combat ship. The Fox’s cranked but where unrealiable and very tempermental. The Johnson would fire right up and haul. I use to add some castor to Missle Mist and had decent luck. My first time with 100 mph UC model. Not many wanted to hand launch this screamer. I have a few CS’s and a Veco CS. Just recieved a Combat Cat double kit that is good shape. A couple of VooDoo’s and a Super Watzit. Who says you can’t go back??!!
I don’t run the snot out of them and fly them for practice. My Veco still runs good and is 45 years old. We use to fly UC, then next time FF. Great times, hobby shop would get what ever you wanted at 20% off. No sales tax to pay for social mistakes of political correctness. I bought a Veco CS, Holland Hornet and some Ambroid glue way back when and got change from a $20.00 bill. I think I’ll start that Fubar right now, and get the Spitzy out of mothballs. Even have a 1/2A Tatone timer for it. Too bad we didn’t have Ca. glue back then. 58 yrs. old going on 14 again. Cheers,Dan π π π π π π π π -
