I recently scored a Nelson 40 Pylon Racng engine via eBay. It comes with a muffler. I plan to run it open exhaust.

Just wondering about the port timing. Does anyone out there in NFFS-Land know whether the timing is optimized for a muffler. If so, how should the timing be altered to run open exhaust 😕

    Thanks in advance 🙂

My guess would be no- however, it could easily be tried by shimming the liner .015″ an then try it- my guess is that the exhaust timing should be in the 160-165 degree range..This can easily (relatively) checked with a protractor….If interested in how, just post it and I will try to explain how to check it…

Pull the muffler. Put on a 10×4 prop. If it turns 22k or better, don’t gloat.
What, pray tell, are ya gonna build for it?

Yep, that’ll go like a cat with turps on its posterior.
