    Hi all

    Just got the following email from SIG re: Norvel engines;
    Hello,

On Thursday ( April 12th 2007 ) SIG was emailed by NORVEL in Russia.

The email stated that they do not have the resources to start back up into production.
IF they were, the prices would go up 60 to 80% in cost.

With that email it is time to say that NORVEL is no longer going to be available through SIG Manufacturing.

They do have some items already made before they had to move the equipment. SIG is going to try and get these items but we already know the quantities left in Russia are very small. We will make an announcement if we are successful in obtaining these last few items.

    Regards,
    Justin Van Dee
    SIG Mfg.

This email was in response to a request for the Norvell 15PB but I read it as ALL Norvel engines. Pity, they made good 1/2A and A gas size engines, now watch the N.I.B. price go up on eBay.

I was browsing a few places last week and noted Sheldon Hobbies as having the 049, 061 and the PB 15 all at about $50. One supplier is not much of a statistical sample I know, and I might be nuts, but it seems to me that a 60% rise on those prices would still be more than a bargain. These are good products.
What is realistic here? Cox production standards declined to the point where they were a shadow of their former self, and the last time I saw one, a TD 049 was $90 (Canadian).
What else do we have left in this class of engine?

    Hi John

For an 049 or 061 use a Cyclon. Re:Sheldon Hobbies, if you google that name go down to the 3rd entry on the list “why I won’t buy from Sheldons”, makes interesting reading.

Hmmm, that’s interesting reading – I was thinking I should get a couple more Norvel 049’s…….

With respect to your 2nd point though Ployd, I don’t think a Cyclon is the same class of engine as the Norvel – you wouldn’t put a Rossi 15 in a model in place of a Cox Special 15, would you?

By this class of engine I meant lightweight plain bearing – a step fwd from the old Tee Dee, not a quantum leap.

I guess it’s all a question of demand – there isn’t enough, no matter how good the product. Regular batch production rather than continuous production perhaps?
