ParticipantRepeat..first may have not gone through
Since we are talking about 1/2a’s for nostalgia…how about some input for a 1/2a nostalgia design without a tappered wing ..has the rudder on the fusealage..simple to build and trim. Also one that could be flown in classic
events and would be idea for a Fox 1/2a.Craig

ParticipantThere are several. The Spacer and T-Bird have the fins on the fuselage. I have had moderate success with T-Birds.
If it is interest to you, I have compiled a series of drawings showing the modifications that successful T-Bird modelers are using. Fuselages are a bit weak so need Carbon Rod reinforcement.
There are other Nos Gas legal tweaks too. Email me at: flydean@worldnet.att.net. I will send you the mods as email attachements.

InactiveHi Craig
I have the plans for a 1/2A size Zoot Suit, straight wing, pylon on built up fuse, fin on top; perfect for either the Cox Thermal Hopper or Fox 049. The model is dead simple to build and no vices as far as trimming is concerned.

ParticipantHere’s another thought. Jaysbird as kitted by BMJR. Fuse mounted fin. Laser cut parts. It has geodetics, so it’ll hold trim. The Max111 will be fine. You can make it lighter with a Micro timer and fuse but thermals don’t care about the lightness.

ParticipantThanks for the thought of the Jay Bird..that thought crossed my mind
also. But in my eyes the price of the kit is a little steep..although
I am sure it’s a good kit.
That’s why I asked for suggestions for a non tappered wing and
fusealage mounted rudder design that I could produce from
plans and would be easy to trim and could use in more than one
class event.
Thanks…CraigKeep up the suggestions !

ParticipantI agree, the kit isn’t particularly cheap. I have built several BMJR kits. The parts fit is superb. You do know that my P30 is kit built.
The Battle Axe has diagonal ribs, straight wing, underslung fin.
Hot Head has a straight wing but tapered stab. Its a Hi-thrust line design-a la T-Bird.02/22/2007 at 12:59 am #44031George Reinhart
ParticipantDan,
Built a Hot Head when first published. Exceptional machine as I recall.
Probably a bit more work because of the internal spars and undercambered wing, but the glide was worth it.
Built light it goes up fast and comes down reeeeal slow.
