InactiveI have two what apear to be very nice O&R .60’s. I bought a kit fro Areo-Dyne some years back made by Midway. I also have a new repro Super Cyke made in Arizona. I assume the O&R will have the go power for this. I will probably copy kit and make one stock and other a cabin. Compression on all engines are awesome. Looking for some input.

ParticipantEither one will fly the airplane respectably, but the Super Cyke will out perform the Ohlsons. Are the O&Rs rotarys or sideports?

InactiveHi Randy,
Both are side ports.

InactiveI believe that I have some O & R 60 ignition engines in my box of antique engines for sale.
Let me know what you are looking for? Good prices.

Cheers,DanHi Dan,
Being sideports then the Super Cyke is by far the best choice.

ParticipantOk the Cyke is probably the better engine but O&R engines are often underrated. Go ahead and run them!!!! I have 3 O&R .60s that have been balanced by George Talent and they are wonderful engines. My Cyke is a repro from the 70s and not nearly as good… go figure.
for all of these old engines, each one is different as the fit and finish is pretty variable. As for “feel” it is worthless. I have flipped over an ignition engine and figured it would not even run to fine it goes like STINK!
Have fun

ParticipantGreetings all:
If it was me, I would use the O&Rs simply because they start so easily and from my experience there is little difference in power between the Ohlsson sideport 60s and the Super Cyclone. I have an O&R .60 in my Red Ripper Class C model and a Super Cyke in my Buzzard Bombshell. To start the O&R, you just put your finger over the intake, flip it a couple of times, and then take your finger off and flip it again and it goes. The Super Cyke is a little trickier to start. It typically either starts quickly or oils the plug. When a thermal comes through, you need a motor that’s going to start instantly! I know that Sal Taibi used an O&R .60 in his Playboy and pretty much dominated the competition. There was a picture of him with that model on the cover of the NFFS Digest a few years back. My sideports are all big port models, but I’m not sure if there’s much difference in performance versus the small port.01/17/2011 at 6:07 pm #45790Anonymous
InactiveLots of good folks use them thats fine. I was never inpressed with the look or the running of O&R. I got rid of all of mine and then won a new .19 on ebay with the tank. Engine was missing retaining nut but I got one from a friend. I may use it in a Cleveland Viking. I have partial semi kit.
The Super Cyke I just like better plus if needed take it apart. I don’t fix something that isn”t broke. I will keep the new O&R .19/.23 ? as it is front loader plus it has the O&R tank. I ran a O&R sideport .23 on bench with glow and engine really was strong but got pretty hot.
