😕 Quick duh! question. I want to put some “visible ” paint on the wing tips of my HLG’s—what should I use for this. All I have is some Fuel-proof spray dope, and this stuff is too heavy. Da Flinger

Design Master makes a Floral Spray in many vibrant colors.
    Very light!
    Available at Michaels craft stores.

I’ve used ‘Dayglo’ out of rattle can’s in the past.
Very bright and not too heavy as you only need to mist it on, and touch it up now and then.
You MUST have a white background though to put it over—-tissue, Polyspan etc. etc.
Lots of bright colours available too

    red’s, orange, yellow, green etc.

I really don’t like it just sprayed at random on the tips though. Looks messy. It looks much better masked off in a bit on the tip in a nice straight line to keep it neat looking. 🙂

I’m with Gossie in that I use rattle can paint (Tamiya) for my wing tips and misted on for sufficient colour. You can get it from LHS that deals in model car kits and it does come in fluro colours.

What texture do these paints leave? I know Design Master is slightly rough, but nothing you have to really worry about……

Slightly rough is good. Makes for an efficient wing tip.
And yes, they are slightly rough with a matt finish.

    Hi Brian
The finish on my wing tips are quite smooth; if you spend time getting a good surface finish on the timber then the final paint coat mirrors it. Local hardware or Home depot rattle can fluro paints because of the pigments used will, by and large give a rougher surface finish which you can leave as is or rub over with a cloth or newspaper to smooth it out… it does work 😉

    Ink.
It can’t go on rough, there’s nothing there.

I use the powdered pigment from CST. “Rocket Red” is my favorite. It will mix with dope or resins, so you know it will be compatible with other layers of finish. You can also control the density, or amount of pigment used. A little goes a long way.
