    Mike,

The Classic 1300 will have the stock stab and wing. The fuselage will be another story. Probably reduced in width (Top View) but side view will be original.
I’m also going to be making a VIT version that I have been flying for the past 25+ years…modified (smaller) stab etc.

Whatever happened to the Satellite 1300 & 1000 kit project?

    All,
I have come by a Campbells Custom Kits version of the Satellite 1300 for a member of the Hip Pockets Forum. I have not seen it yet but I wonder if this version has Geodetic wing and stab reduced stab area and the thinner airfoil sections like the BMJR version

Kenny Kear just sent me a 788 kit that i’m building. i’ll be putting my K&B 6.5 in it.
I’m looking for a 6.6 or a 7.5 to fly it in class D preferably new. Who’s got one of these?

    Hello Dick,

I’ve flown a 788 for many years. It was built from the Hunter kit. Mine has the old K&B .40RR in the nose and now days it’s a REAL Classic Power model! I know lots of fliers that have a hole lot more power in the nose and have had issues with the original wing structure. Any of the plastic coverings will not be enough to prevent fluttering in the climb. If your building the wing as is, cover the wing with polyspan at the least. Most guys sheet the L.E. top and bottom or go geodetic then you can use the plastics. I was thinking about building a new re-designed 788 using a Nelson .45…if that happens I’ll be collecting some CF!!

I’m quite sure you know all this but I posted this for the benefit of others thinking of building this great ship.

Oh by the way I have a new K&B 6.5 here…make me an offer.

    Dan,
I have a 6.5 that runs well and I just bought a 7.5 in good shape at Muncie for a good price.
I would like to find the 6.6 however cause the power is the same. For the future, in case my 6.5 blows up (hahaha) what would you want for your new one?
Bob Hanford covers with Ultralite and puts braces between upper and lower spars with no flutter. I also add an X carbon fiber and balsa to the main wing panel from the extreme corners of the panel giving it good rigidity.
My kit came from Kenny Kears and is of exceptional quality, both laser cut stuff and the wood quality. However the plans don’t include the old step-by-step instructions and I made a mistake in the fuselage construction sequence. Ken, if you read this, these instructions would make the kit even more perfect.
I agree with you Dan, the Satellite is an all time great!

BY THE WAY—- does anyone know where I can get some thrust offset discs to go behind the engine? THey were of some plastic and came in 1, 2 and 3 degrees for offsetting the thrust.

Dick, I don’t know what happened to the reply I just did but in case you didn’t get it I’d like to have Kenny’s contact info. so I could review what Satellite kits he has available.

    Thks, Scott

    Dick,

Sorry about that. When I realized my mistake I looked through my engines looking for a 6.6. I know I had one but can’t seem to find it. I’ve been looking for a Rossi .15 Mk.III on the net and just found three of them! I’m getting old….

I’m just starting the build of my Satellite 1300 from the BMJR kit.
I’ve had the kit and Rossi 61 RV for a while and have decided to just go for it. I’ll use a bladder for consistent runs. The BMJR instructions talk about it being the smaller stab version at 38% area( I don’t have the instructions with me at the moment so that number is ballpark)
I’d welcome any answers to the following questions.
Any guesses how much fuel I’ll need for Start tune and Run ?
I’ll go for VIT and AR for ease of trimming but I wondered if anyone has any advice on the warps, CG and thrustline ?
Either reply on this or email me direct flyf2d@hotmail.com

    1300 trim
    Wash out wing tips 1/8″
Wash in right inboard panel at dihedral break 1/8″
    Left inboard panel flat
    Stab flat
    Engine down thrust 6 degrees
    Engine left thrust 2-3 degrees.
    CG 83%
This is just a starting point, test glides and flights may show need for further adjustment
Put in 3-4 ozs. of fuel and test run it on the ground and see what you get.

    Thanks Mike.
It won’t be a one week build but we’re hoping to get it done fairly quickly.
Dumb question, ‘Wash out wing tips 1/8?’ , err, measured where on the elliptical tips ?

Wing tip washout at last rib trailing edge
