What is the best thermal detector on the market?
I was using a clockwork/wind up twin pen paper graph sheet that rolled from one drum to another and it gave great results showing a line for ups and downs in temperature and another for wind speed. Lost possession of this about 15 years ago and wonder if the same things can be accomplished by an electronic one with a screen showing the same stuff.
Is there anything like that on the market?
    Thanks

Dick Wood makes a nice electronic thermal plotter displaying the temperature over four minute. (This requires good programing and hardware skills!) A separate wind speed meter called Windtronic, sold by Dave Edmonson, can be screwed onto Dick’s box, displaying the current wind speed. (I happen to use this system, roughly costing $500.) The Russian F1C flier Leonid Fuzeyev has a temperature/wind velocity electronic device with an excellent reputation, but I have not seen it in the States.

At the Maxmen I’ve seen Mike Woodhouse used a thermal and wind speed plotter and made by Pim Ruyter with two pens tracking on a 2â€

None of those skills you mention here!!!
Do you think I could get Dick Wood’s with the programming already done?
Does he have a web site?

You could try and e-mail them at:
    Dick Wood: dickWoodOK@aol.com
    Dave Edmonson: dEdmonson@concast.net
    Pim Ruyter: pin.ruyter@planet.nl

A bit curious about free flight activity in Guatemala.

    Thanks Aram

    I’ll contact them.

FF in Guatemala has been in total limbo for over 10 years now, since Peter Birch, one of the 2 backbones of our Guatemala Skyscrapers club died. (You can tell I’m from Brooklyn)
I’ll be flying again soon with a few that are about ready. Nice thing about this is you qualify for the WFFC team every time, if you want to go, no competition! Had a ball at the Thouars WC in 87.

    Thermals,

    Dick
