ParticipantI’m looking for plans for Bill Dunwoody’s Shiftless A. I have the ‘3-view’ from the February 1956 issue of FM.

ParticipantIt’s a nice looking airplane, but you are probably not going to find plans. However, there’s enough information on the three-view to draw them up. It’s a simple sheet box fuselage and the wing and tail structure is pretty clear. Incidences, thrust settings and dihedral is also shown. The stab airfoil is listed Clark Y, but the only real problem comes with the wing airfoil, which is listed as a “zip-zip”. However, there’s a three-view for Frank Parameter’s Honey Boy on the same page and the airfoil is also listed as a “zip-zip.” (I guess air foils were a big secret for FAI fliers back then!) Frank’s model is also shown in one of the Zaic yearbooks and it does show the airfoil, so I would just use that. I’m sure it’s close enough. Or you might find a plan or three-view for one of Bill Dunwoody’s other airplanes; it’s likely he used the same airfoil. Just sit down with a pencil, a ruler and a calculator, draw it up on the back of some other plan, and you will be building in no time!

ParticipantAny chance of getting the 3 view on the site?

ParticipantHi Denny. I tried, but NFFS doesn’t allow you to upload PDF files. If you go to http://www.RCgroups.com and search Dunwoody’s Shiftless, the page from Flying Models with the two three-views will come up and then you can download it as a PDF file. And if you go to http://www.outerzone.co.uk and search ‘Dunwoody’, a bunch of his designs will come up and they pretty much all have similar under cambered airfoils, so I can’t see anyone objecting if you use one of the airfoils from his other designs.

ParticipantOK I’ve drawn the plan and scaled it to 245 sq.in. for a 12A but the 3 view has one little issue the top view the tail moment is longer than on the side view I geuss I have a 5050 chance of getting it right. I’ve gone with the side view. Bruce

ParticipantStevej,I have the model all built and is now ready for covering.Last time I checked it was about 5.8 oz. so I’m looking at a 6.5 to 7 zo. 12A .I’m using a mini combo timer so that ‘s not to bad.The wing is 7″ longer than my Ramrod 250 it also isn’t very stiff will need to be tissue maybe with 14 mil. mylar. It is a nice looking model I’m very happy with the way it has turned out.
