Ron Pollard Correction
Just a correction to latest SEN.

Something wrong with the message attributed to Mike Woodhouse re Ron Pollard, a much lamented modeller and fully worthy of the tributes in today’s SEN. However, Ron died on May 10 2014, not ‘last Saturday’.

Urlan Wannop

Editor’s comment -Urlan and some others, thanks for setting us right. For some reason FB has a habit of bring back stories and we did not notice the date of Mike’s original posting and neither did a lot of other people . So apologies for discomfort this may have caused

C Test ?
From: Ross Jahnke

So we’ve had a couple weeks since the rule changes were announced. Has
anyone with an F1C set up a 4 second motor run and test flown a model???

The Rest of another story ?

There has been much discussion about rules changes and the like in recent days. But one story that is may be more indicative of the issues we face is the Bernard Guest fire sale.

Bernard is a FF modeller who lives in Calgary, Canada and is a young man. Well, in FF anyone under 60 is young and he is under 50 and in great physical shape. The latter something to do with being a mountain climber and Rock Doc (Geology Professor). Bernard had flown a number of classes over the years and got into F1B with the strong Canadian contingent, Tony, Ladi, Mr Magoo, et al. A lot of expertize and activity there. The only problem is that his Canadian flying buddies live in Toronto and he lives in Calgary.

So for Bernard to take part in an F1B event he has to fly to Toronto, or somewhere in the USA. Huge distances and expensive.

The Toronto guys are very good at sharing information but besides flying in a contest it is great to go to the field from time to time with some flying friends and do some trimming. No F1B guys in Calgary nor any F1A and certainly not F1C.

So Bernard figured that while he could afford to get some whizz-bang F1Bs getting to any event involved a 3000 mile flight and not matter how great flying with Tony or arguing with Ladi was it was just too expensive and not really practical.

In Bernard’s case it is not just the “super expensive FAI class models” because he had a number of rubber scale models, HLGs and the like that he also got rid off.

Really sad to see Bernard stop because he brought a lot of energy and enthousiasm to the field. Extra tough for the Canadian F1C guys because Tony recounted how at the last World Champs there was a move of the F1C flight line some distance across a plowed field. Bernard just picked up a heavy F1C model box put it on shoulder and jogged across to the new flight line. An impossible act for Tony or Ladi to follow.

F1C RDT Converstion from FB

John Lorbiecki In respects to rdt, I know of no way that a rdt can be added to a standard mechanical timer system. If there is a way, please present it. Yes, rdt can be added after all the systems gave been activated but how would it be done before the bunt?

Robin Beckford Instead of hooking to the mechanical timer, the (longer) d/t line loops around the timer d/t arm and back to a stand-alone rdt unit. D/t can then be operated by either unit.

Damjan uli? I suggest that we wait on the official definition of RDT rules…

John Lorbiecki Yes Robin that works for dt but you must release the bunt line also. So that wouldn’t work unless the model has bunted. Also may have to kill the engine. ..as Damjan stated, we need to see what the rules are…either way, not simple or cheap..

Robin Beckford John, good point – I’d forgotten about the bunt line needing to be released as well. Hmm……

Editor’s Comment – A point that Roger Simpson alluded to and is implied in John’s comment about the bunt line is that the more complex the F1C, the more lines have to be released. So if you have a fixed wing model for it to D/T you have to release the bunt line because it would stop the stab from popping up.
But if the model is folder you probably have to unfold the wings too ? It would seem that D/Ting the model
with just the short stubby power wings is probably not a good idea.

You know a parachute might not be as stupid as it sounds, I’m sure CHE Enterprises can get you a deal on MoD surplus.
