Remembering John Morrill

Like Norm Furutani I also would like to send my sincerest sympathy to the relations of John
and say that whenever I was over in LA I would make the time to go to Johns place and catch
up on all the projects he had going at the time and if there was nothing new he always
managed to have a film of some interesting work or a copy of an old commercial film that he
would show in his living room cum theatrette.

The last real project he undertook was when he was making his lovely small compressed air
motors and he would always explain the whys and where’s he made the beautiful
jewels.

Living as he did in El Segundo in a converted shop his door was always open but I never saw
anybody ever try to push their way into the group more so when next door to him was a
popular bar that was usually full of people but never when I was visiting was there any
problems.

John used to fly a lot of Scale , some rubber powered and others using his Air motors and
they certainly were well built and well trimmed.

John Malkin.

2015 AmCup Report – beginning of December

I watched my chances of winning the AmCup zoom away when I released my LDA outside the launch envelop on the 7 minute flyoff round at the S.W. Regionals at Eloy AZ last weekend. What a pitty as that I had been hitting100 meters in the regular rounds. Brian Van Nest made a fine flight for the win. Looks like Jama has secured his second AmCup F1A win.

F1B had a classic, Mano a Mano competition between Blake Jensen and Walt Ghio. They with Roger Morrell launched just before sunset in ideal conditions at Eloy for the 7 minute flyoff flight. Blake had 9 seconds over Walt. So Blake took the lead with 2 points over Tony Mathews in second place. Two flyers have enough bonus points to take the lead with a 25 point win at King Orange. Any year end travel plans for Sevek Malkhasyan or Greg Simon?

F1C has a similar situation with two flyers with bonus points that can overtake Faust Parker’s first place position, Ron McBurnett is one but he is not known to travel beyond Tangent, Lost Hills and Mongolia. The other is RandySecor. Randy is recovering from heart treatment, we wish him speedy recovery. Faust also looks to have F1J wrapped up as well.

Tiffaney O’Dell stayed home, she had a lock on F1G after her win at the Patterson.

Mike McKeever went to Eloy with the F1H lead but a win by Brian VanNest could snatch it from him. I played the spoiler and won. Brian and I could go to K.O. and get the AmCup lead with a win.

Jack Murphy and Matt Gewain are tied in F1Q with Jack winning via tiebreaker.

Ditto previous years with Peter Brocks securing another wining F1E.

So let’s see if K.O. gets any additional flyers that could change these current results.
