Fab Feb 3 Important information items.

The Kiwi Cup/Ike Winter Classic is considering adding F1N150 Outdoor, probably on the Mini event day. Are visiting flyers interested in us doing this? Note that while F1N150 is normally an indoor event it would be flown OUTDOORS.  Seeing these gliders are only 150mm wing span ….

The AMA has increased the fee for Associate Membership to $125.00, this is required for visitors to the USA to fly in USA competitions BUT The FAI requires that National Aero clubs provide this membership for members of other national aero clubs when taking part on World Championship or World Cup event. Seeing the Kiwi, North American and Max Men have World Cup events includes people taking part in those events. So don’t sat the FAI does not do anything for you !!! In the past as part of our pre-entry followed by pay at Lost Hills we simplified the AMA Associate process, we are working on that because the processes have changed.

There is section on the SEN website –sen.faifreeflight.org that has all the information items for Fab Feb and will be updated as required.  All the event flyers, summary and vendor notices will be there.

Results from all classes in one competition

From: Per Grunnet

Hi Roger

In the latest SEN Mike Woodhouse mentioned the idea of letting models of different classes fly the same contest.
In Denmark we have just decided to let all results in a free flight contest count in an “overall result”.
We will do this in 2025 and evaluate at the end of the contest season.
We are not many free flyers in Denmark, so some of us are often only competitors in our classes. This makes contest flying less interesting, especially when participating includes long driving and expenses to lodging.
Our system is very simple:
All classes are flown with the same number of rounds. The result from a round is the flight time written as percent of the maximum flight time in the class in the round.
In a typical first round the F1A-fliers have 240 seconds max, while a F1S flier has 120 seconds max. If a F1A-flier makes 120 seconds, he gets 50% in the round. If a F1S-flier makes 120 seconds, he gets 100%.
If more than one maxes out, there will be fly-offs. Again the result of a round is percents of the maximum time.
Everything will of course not be “just” – it will be “comparing apples to pears” (as we say in Danish). But still, it may be more fun to compete for those of us, who fly classes with low participation.
There will still be winners of each class based on the results in seconds – the “overall result” is an extra bonus.

Best regards,
Per Grunnet

On Fixing B
By Aram Schlosberg
.
The recent talk about reducing B’s motors to 25 grams seems like an attempt to “reduce performance”. We all might have to double  circumcise our motor tubes from both ends.
.
There are really two issues – the large portion of B flyers who reach the flyoffs. But large flyoffs are not an issue when altimeters are universally incorporated. In fact, (human) timers are no longer needed – just line administrators.
.
To reduce the flyoffs size just increase the max to 200 seconds. I can’t recall a contest without a squeaker. (2 * 240 + 5 ^ 200.)
.
Suggest flying 200 second maxes in B first. ///
