Fab Feb Update
As of today, the number of pre-entrants is 118 from 18 countries.
The Flying Neurons have updated their About Time web site at https://abouttime.flyingneurons.io/ that shows information that Flying Neurons users have reported to include information related to specific events. This will possibly facilitate the direct real time reporting of an event. This not in the Sporting Code at this point so it not official but is here so we can see how it might work and what is needed to make it happen. Up to this point you typically selected the information you wanted to see on About Time by date. Now it can be dome by event as well and Flying Neurons will be setting that up for the Fab Feb events.
We believe that better time keeping at two levels is critical for the future of our events. Firstly, we have to accurately time the flights. Competition at the World Cup level is very close, we try very hard, and the margins of victory are very small so we need to do the very best we can at measuring performance. Secondly people follow the events all over the World and we have the Internet and associated technology to report on the results quickly and accurately. So to maintain that World Wide interest we must use the internet and technology to get those contest results we worked hard to measure properly out there for people to see as soon as possible.
Remember to bring your Rubbish or Trash bag with you to Lost Hills in Feb and if you generate Rubbish and/ or Trash remember to put it in the bag and take it off the field !!! and if you did not bring one with you I m sure you can get one at the local market. So, support the local business.
We understand that there will be some facilities at the event for F1C sportsmen to update their timers to the latest sporting code required specs. Contact your vendor in advance and arrange to get together. This does not just happen by itself!!
SoCal Question from Japan
We got a question from a reader in Japan asking about alternate routes to the I-5 to go from the Los Angeles area to Lost Hills. Firstly the I-5 is a major highway and the authorities make extreme efforts to keep it open. It does go through areas that can be affected by weather, natural disasters such as fires and manmade ones like road accidents. I have been going to model flying events at Taft and Lost Hills since late 1980 and only needed to take an alternate route home once sometime back in the 1990s.. The most likely alternate highway route north from Los Angeles is the 101. It goes from the San Fernando Valley area up along the coast through Ventura and Santa Barbara. To get to Lost Hills you would go as far as San Luis Obispo and then take the 46 to Lost Hills. The 46 is road next to our flying site that people take when they want to go to the coast. There are other ways via the 58 or 138 that can also be taken depending on what you were trying to avoid. These more usually routes taken by people from Las Vegas or Bishop via Lancaster or Mohave.
The fires are largely under control, a tragic and major issue for those directly affected but not so much for those passing through. It is still wintertime and the weather can be an issue. Reminder that the official California web sites are this for road information.
