SEN 3248
- August 2024 AmCup Scores and Report
Am Cup at 1 Aug after Nats
With about 1/3 of the 32 AmCup contests now complete, we have some great competitions shaping up. Interestingly, only 8 flyers have broken the 100 point mark. Generally, a score of 103 to 107 wins most of the events but F1A and B often require 110 to 115 points. There are several flyers in the top five that have only 3 scores and so with a 4th score (meeting the 3 flying site rule) would exceed 100 points. Careful examination shows there are several lurkers ready to snatch the lead from the leaders.
F1A: Andrew Barron and myself are tied for first—if it stays that way to the end (not likely) I’d win the tie breaker. Enes is 1 point behind with a 22 point score, that is he could gain +3 points with a 25 point win but not at Lost Hills. Jama is lurking with 3 scores at 83 points so a 25 point win would put him at 108 points, not at Lost Hills but his two local Canadian contests are coming up.
F1B: Jerry Fitch is in the lead with 105 points, with two second places so he has room to grow. Ron Felix is in second with 100 points. Lurking in third is Alex Andriukov with just 3 scores for 85 points but 13 bonus points, so a non- Lost Hills 25 point win would yield 110 points which would hard to beat.
F1C: Faust Parker is the only flyer with 4 scores. Guy Menanno was having fun at the Nats flying many events but not F1C? Guy needs a non-Lost Hills 0r Eloy win to move ahead of Faust, but Faust can improve a Lost Hills second place (23 points) in October.
F1P: New Jrs on the score sheet! Paul and Caleb Finn flew at the Nats. Time will tell if F1P remains the Jr FAI World Championship event and if not what the transition will be. The Jr World Champs that changed from F1J to F1P flew both events. Bob Hanford is in the lead with 3 scores, Randy Secor in second with two scores. Another lurker is Mike Fedor with only 2 scores but one of those will likely be the only bonus point. So, if Mike can win 2 contests at different sites, he’d likely win it all.
F1G: The wins are more spread out and not as many bonus points as in the past. Tiff O’Dell is in the lead with 98 points. Darold Jones in second but would be difficult to catch Tiff due to lack of bonus points. Here the lurker is Jerry Fitch with 3 scores but would need a non-Eloy, non-Lost Hills wins to take the lead. Tangent bound?
F1H: Now known as the Blake and Jim show. It looks like I got the only bonus point with my Nats win and have the lead but also a third place score (21) in my 98 point total. Blake can take the lead with a double Tangent win to improve his score to 100 points. Awe, but I have a local Texas contest in September that if I win would provide 101 points. Ken Bauer is in third and we’re hoping he joins the show—retirement has been very good for him—he won both the Indoor and Outdoor HLG NATs this year!
F1J: This will be interesting. Guy Menanno flew F1J at the Nats and placed third, but he still has the lead with 97 points. Many time winner Faust Parker is in second, 2 points behind with fellow Texas flyer Steve Spence lurking in third with just two scores, one being the Nats win with the likely only bonus point. A long shot is last year’s winner Daryl Perkins who is in fourth with 2 Lost Hills scores, so he’d have to do win a Lost Hill contest and do some traveling and find a bonus point should Steve win two 25 point contests. Last year he did this at Tangent and Eloy but I don’t know if one these contests will have 5 flyers to get the needed bonus point.
F1Q: What do you know? Jack Murphy is in the lead with 104 points. Avia Yuda (2nd) and Julie Parker (3rd) can catch him, but they need some bonus points to do it.
F1S: This will sound familiar– What do you know? Jack Murphy is in the lead with 104 points. Likewise, Larry Norvall (2nd), David Sechrist (3rd) and Frank Mennano (4th)) can catch him and they too need bonus points. The lurker? Janna VanNest with only 2 scores but 7 bonus points. Two 25 point wins and she would take the lead— assuming Jack does not improve his score.
F1E: The site rule was deleted for 2024 and some input about how this may or will kill the motivation to run F1E at other sites and to develop new sites as been received. This will be discussed during the rules review before the 2025 season. Three more F1E contests at Lost Hills this October, perhaps a fourth at the Patterson in November? Currently Geralyn Jones is in the lead with 96 points. Tied for second is Peter Brocks and Mike McKeever. So, this event is wide open.
That’s how F1A Outdoor FF competition looks during this week of Olympics.
