Response to Frederic’s message: Fly off in French championship F1A
So cool! We followed a similar approach in a national contest in the Netherlands on September 21st of this year.
The situation was that there were only 6 participants in the contest, all flying F1A. Four of them maxed out. The problem occurred that we didn’t have enough time keepers for the fly-off. So we decided to do an altimeter-fly-off. One of the two flyers, who was not in the fly-off helped all four flyer up into the air as soon as everyone rolled out their towline. The take-off order was determined via a raffle. Agreed was that this person would also keep track of the working time. The working time started as soon as the last flyer went up into the air.
All four fly-off participants made really nice 3-minute flights after which the altimeters were read out and the finish order was determined. Two people flew with All-Tee and two were using Mini-Neurone.
I agree with Frederic that this alternative way of timing, especially for (big) fly-offs, could be worth to look into.
Best regards,
Jurgen Maassen
Even More on seeing is believing
From Bernd Hönig
Hello to each other
We practice a very nice sport. It enriches our lives in many ways.
But the article by Frederik Aberlenc about the flyoff more than shocked me. The models were launched without knowing or being able to see what was happening to them. Yes, the Neuron shows me everything. Certainly a very helpful device, without a doubt. But this was a deliberate breach of aviation law. Flying out of sight. I don’t want to imagine what would have happened if an incident had occurred. In 31 European countries, everyone must have proof of knowledge of applicable aviation law. And in this case, not only the pilot but also the organiser and competition manager would certainly have been held accountable. And just because the Sporting Code provides us with the option of an altimeter flyoff, decisions in the competition must be made within the framework of aviation law

Question s – Does this mean that all models over a certain weight 250 g ? must have a RDT and it be RDT by the Time keeper if it goes out of sight ? or is it OK if someone else eg the sportsman can still see it ? , is it OK if his grandson can still see it ? Must it have a flashing beacon ? Does that make difference? What is the definition of out of sight ? Who is responsible the sportsman ? or the organizer ? the timekeeper ?
Arizona Championships and SWR at Eloy
From Peter Brocks
On December 7 and 8 the Arizona Free Flight Championships will be held at Eloy, Arizona. This is the last America’s Cup and National Cup contest West of the Mississippi for the year 2024. There are FAI, AMA, NFFS and SAM events. On the desert flying field in Eloy it will be cool in the mornings but should warm up to 70° during the day. The flyers will be available at the NFFS website.
For information on the 3-day 2025 Southwest Regional Model Airplane Championships on January 18-20 go to the SWR website https://swregionals.org – please use the Entry Forms there to pre-enter before Jan. 1, 2025.
Please fly with us at Eloy!

2024 Am Cup Scores and Report,
Only 3 more contests in this season. TTC Simpson Memorial in Wellington Kansas is Nov 2-3. Usually, low FAI turn out so could be a place to go to grab a 25-point win. Contact Bob Hanford for more info <bhantulsa@cox.net>. The following weekend is the Patterson- Dual club at L.H. CA, Nov. 9-10. The last contest of the year is the AZ Champs, Eloy AZ, Dec 7-8.
– Jama looks to have locked up F1A.
– Charlie Jones’ 30 points at Sierria cup puts him and Alex Andruikov (Team USA ) in a similar position needing a third site score which Wellington or Eloy would provide.
– F1C, Guy Menanno (Team USA) and Faust Parker are tied with 100-points, Guy has the tie breaker win at this point.
– F1P looks like it will be decided at the Wellington KS contest where Mike Fedor was talking of going to get his 3rd site score. But this is the home of Bob Hanford who is in 2nd place and also needs a 3rd site score and 2023 F1P Champ. However, Mike needs only a 2nd place to keep the lead.
– Tiff O’Dell has a commanding lead in F1G, not likely to be caught.
– The lock on F1H looks good for me— perhaps Blake Jensen can get a squadron of Top Kick flyers out to one of the last contests to get 2 bonus points needed for the win.
– Similar situation for Guy Mennano in F1J over Faust Parker but Faust needs 4 points for the win.
– Jack Murphy, F1Q- Team USA, has a good lead. His USA Team partner Yude Avia needs a 3-bonus point win for a tie which he currently would win.
– Jack Murphy also looks to remain top dog in F1S as well.
– I believe all the F1E contests are complete for this year, if correct, Mike Mckeever is taking first place.

Note the table with this score is missing and will be included in the next SEN
While on missing Items we got an excellent report on some contests in Turukey but have not been able to format the results in a readable fashion. This is due to different format for different events and width of the reports. We have spent several hours working on this. The work is still in progress.
