- USA Team Selection Details
We have been asked to include in SEN more information about the recent Team Selection event including the times. It is important to remember that the object of the event was to select the Team to represent the USA at the 2025 World Free Flight champs in Romania. So, the first thing to note is the Team that was chosen, Namely:
Final results.
F1A: Shlomi Rosenzweig, Jim Parker, Ken Bauer.
Alternate: Andrew Barron.
F1B: Alex Andriukov, Bernard Guest, Greg Simon, Tia Zheng.
Alternate: Blake Jensen.
F1C: Guy Menanno, Todd Reynolds, Taron Malkhasyan.
Alternate: Walt Ghio.
F1Q: Yuda Avla, Jack Murphy, Mike Pykelny, Julie Parker.
Alternate: Mike Richardson.

While the contest was flown to all the usual FAI event rules, but it was not regular contest. There were 2 contests flown for each World Champs class F1A, F1B, F1C and F1Q. The winner of each event won a Team Place. The third Team place was the result of a fly off between the second-place getters. If one person was the second-place getter in both events , that person took the third team spot without the additional fly off. The team is allowed to have a fourth person , if that person is a lady. Ladies qualified for two of the classes. The team selection rules are a little more complicated in detail and take into account a number of special cases. The times are an indication of the closeness of the competition, the weather that necessitated the shortening of some of the round maxes and the turbulent and tricky thermal conditions in a few of the rounds.
The weather conditions were generally good. The contest director was Mike Mckeever, a former F1A World Champ. The Head Jurist was Chuck Etherington assisted by David Lindley and Glenn Schneider . All participants timed for the other classes and a number of volunteer time keepers helped with the timing. The program requires that one flyer s model be spot checked every round for conformity to the rules and that was done. A very well run contest with a good sporting result.
