Dates

 August 12 to 18 2002

Location

Air Sports Centre in Lucenec, Slovak Republic

Information

Three pre-contest bulletins were issued giving the NACs all necessary information.

Accommodation and food

Two places of accommodation were offered by the organiser. The meals were served at the places of accommodation.

Some complaints were expressed concerning the quality and quantity of the evening meals in the hotel, which at the beginning of the competition consisted of the main course only (with no any beverages). An improvement was observed afterwards — the food was more abundant, a mineral water was served.

Flying site

Airfield Bolkovce is not too large, but surrounding fields extended to a useable area. The organisers choose position the flight line near to the centre of the airfield. Repositioning of the starting line due to the changes of the wind direction was carried out quickly.

Participation

Seventeen countries participated in the Championships: 47 competitors from 17 countries in FlA class, 27 competitors from 10 countries in FlB class and 15 competitors from 6 countries in FlJ class.

Registration and Model Processing:

During the registration of competitors FAI Sporting Licence, age of competitors and model certificates were checked. Unfortunately models were not marked during this processing by the organizer, but after the official practice each team was supplied with an accurate quantity of official stickers. The models were processed according to the Sporting Code – more than 20 % during the competition as well as the models of the winners.

Organisation

The competition was organised efficiently. A scoreboard was maintained during the rounds. Team results were released with some delay. Opening ceremony at the airfield was very simple and short. Prizegiving ceremony was in the centre of Lucenec Town. The winners were awarded with the FAI medals and diplomas and cups by the organiser. The Challenge Trophy for the overall performance was awarded.

Competition

The competition in FlA and FlB was run according to the FAI Sporting Code. Neither for FlA nor FlB the fly offs were needed. In F1J the maximum for first round was increased as local rule. For fifth round of fly off the rule 3.1.8.e) was applied.

Protest

There was no official protest.

Incident

Two members of the French team suffered from a motorbike accident. Both of them were taken to the local hospital and were expected to stay there for a few days. The accident happened at night on the runway of the Air Sports Centre.

Thanks

The jury wishes to thank the Slovak National Aero Club, Model Union of Slovak Republic and Modeller Club of Lucenec for successful Championships.
