The new power class did not improved the number of participants, except that three teams had a fourth competitor flying F1P, and this new class proved to be more suitable for juniors. It is expected that more F1P models will be flown in the future. In conclusion, the situation is not very better but it is not worse…

Accommodation

Teams were accommodated in the building normally occupied by the students of the Air Force Academy during school time. All meals were served in the Academy restaurant. Food was excellent.

Competition

Contest was organised on the Air Force Academy airfield, which is surrounded by high trees. It is adequate for free flight only with low wind or if the wind is in the direction of the runway.

In fact, the wind, which has never been too strong, stayed approximately in the direction of the main runway, which gave good conditions both for timing and retrieving the models. Nevertheless, we had to move the starting line several times, in order to give the longest possible distance for the models to be correctly observed by the timekeepers. This was not too much a problem except on the power day when the jury had to decide to reduce the maximum duration to 2 minutes after two rounds.

Some models went to the forests, outside of the airfield, but all of them were finally retrieved. The contest was perfectly organised and well run by Stephan Kraszewski, better known as an F2B experienced judge, but who did very well. The co-operation between contest organisation and the FAI Jury has been excellent and provided a very smooth competition.

There was no protest, but we noticed some difficulty to enforce the rule B.3.4 concerning the helper for a junior competitor. The aim of this rule is to have the juniors operating their models by themselves. The Jury suggests a modification of the existing rule, which could be:

“B.3.4.c): At Junior Continental and World Championships, competitors should set their timer and prepare their models by themselves before each official flight.”

The organiser had difficulties with some teams because the entry fees and accommodation were not paid in advance. It is necessary that the information contained in the bulletins should be strictly followed.

This should be mentioned at the Plenary Meeting and a special note should be sent to the concerned NACs.

Opening and Closing Ceremony

Opening and closing ceremonies took place in the stadium of the air Force Academy. It must be noted that the Academy band played the national anthems of the winners and the FM anthem. FAI diplomas, medals and magnificent trophies from the organisers were awarded to the winners.

It must be noted that, some teams having competitors only in FlA on the first day, left before the end of the Championship, leaving an empty place behind their flag…

The banquet took place in the ball room of the Jablonovskis palace. Everything was excellent in a very good atmosphere.

Observations

A tour has been organised for the participants and officials with a picnic in the park of a castle.

Conclusions

This Championship was excellent, from the beginning to the end, very well organised, and there is no doubt that the help of the Air Force Academy and its co-operation with the Aero Klub Poiski contributed to make it exceptionally successful.

They must be commended for the magnificent image they gave to all participants.
