During the preparations the organizer made an illegal substitution of the CIAM confirmed Austrian member by inviting another Austrian person instead of the accepted reserve member (Dorota Wlodarczyk). This was discovered in Bulletin 2. For the request of the jury president this mistake was corrected.
Dates
September 17th to 21st, 2002
Location
Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia
Information
Two bulletins were sent out to NACs before the event a bit delayed and additional information were issued on the spot at arrival and contained the necessary information. One meeting was organized for the team managers, for the officials and the jury. We also have got some colour brochures with pictures concerning the countryside.
Participation
The final entry was from a total of 29 senior competitors from 10 countries and 18 juniors from 7 countries. The total number of participating countries and competitors was less than in 1999. The reason was probably the cancellation of the event from the WAG programme and the change of date for a later one well within the holiday season.
Accommodation
Accommodation was organised in different versions. The hotel for the officials was good. We haven’t heard about problems. The food in the hotel was excellent and plentiful, the lunch on the site was good as well. Before departing we have got a cold meal package for the travel.
Flying site
The flying area was selected daily based on the meteorological information and was announced at the main square of the town. There was acceptable access to the slopes by car. The slopes are good for the F1E class, but in some cases tall trees and houses are situated within the landing area. The nicely gliding models with a beautiful landscape in the background was very impressive.
Competition
During the championships the weather conditions in general were good but not easy. This way there were not too many competitor in the fly off and two rounds were enough to have the winner.
Opening and Closing Ceremony
The opening ceremony was organized by at the main square in Liptovski Mikulas in the presence of the local authorities and a number of inhabitants. The major of the town hold his greeting and opening speech in three languages (besides Slovak in English and French).
The closing ceremony was in the evening in the garden of the main hotel in the camera light of the local media.
Protests
We had no protest to handle. A verbal claim concerning possible bias in timing for the local competitors was controlled by the jury and we haven’t found any bias.
Conclusions
The 2002 European Championships in class F1E was a successful event both for the seniors and juniors as well. Thanks and congratulations to the hard working local organizing staff and the timekeepers, local and from abroad. The very powerful and energetic contest director could well use the students of the local military academy as timekeepers The organisers used well the experience they collected through the previous events, several world cup contests and a world championship. Thanks to them for the work and efforts made for the F1E modelling community.
