Participation
F1A 44 competitors from 16 nations
F1B 35 competitors from 13 nations
F1P 19 competitors from 7 nations
Total participation: 17nations. For the first time, South Korea appeared in Free Flight Junior World Championships.
Accommodation
Teams were accommodated in a school, in several hotels in Salonta and in a motel at a very short distance from the city. Hot lunch was served on the flying site with tables, chairs and shade. Food and beverage were also available on the field.
Flying site
The flying site is very large and is used mainly for sheep. It is very similar to the Hungarian puszta on the other side of the border ! The track from the main road to the flying field had been repaired for the benefit of both, modellers and also users of the big farm at the other end of the field.
August 1 to 7
Weather
The weather has been very nice with bright sun and quite high temperature but light wind, except in the morning of the F1P day where we had to wait for the end of a thunderstorm which had taken down all tents used for lunch and models processing..
Competition
The competition was run with no problem by a very efficient Contest Director; M. Viorel Salistean who must be congratulated for his excellent work. A score board was available, close to the starting line. Each team manager plus the FAI Jury received a copy of the scores after the end of each round. The winners models could be processed under a large tent immediately after the end of the competitions, and 20% of the models were processed at random during the competition.
A few minutes after the start of the F1P competition, the visibility became very bad because of some storm and the FAI Jury decided to interrupt the round.
Considering B.15.1 … in event of interruption, jury must decide the action to be taken to complete, repeat or cancel the round. After discussion, the beginning of that round giving unsporting results, it has been decided to repeat this round. This decision has been well accepted by all team managers.
Timekeeping
There was no problem of timekeeping, with two timekeepers equipped with binoculars and tripod at each pole.
Opening and Closing Ceremony
Opening ceremony was held in a beautiful gymnasium with the traditional speeches and traditional dances from local young dancers. Unfortunately, it was very hot in this gym and the sound was very bad. It would have been much better to have this opening ceremony in the open air, for instance on the main square of SALONTA.
The closing ceremony was held in the school gymnasium. There was enough room for everybody to watch the podium. Unfortunately, as it happens many times, the flags were raised in the back of the winners, who were unable to see them unless turning back to the public.
FAI medals, FAI diplomas and FAI trophies were awarded by FAI Jury members, and local trophies awarded by local authorities
The following banquet was served in the school dining room and was very good.
Protests
There was no protest
Conclusions
The Romanian Federation of modelism and the local organisers must be congratulated for a very good Championship.
