Accommodation

Competitors, supporters and competition staff were accommodated in Sport Hotel in Cluj-Naporca, approx. 8 km away from flying site. All meals, which were of a good standard, were taken in the hotel restaurant.

Flying site

The place of the championships was located in the Transilvania Alps. All flying sites were situated at the slopes very near the town at the sporting airfield Deznhir. A regular bus service was provided between the hotel and the flying site.

Weather

The wind 1 – 3 rn/s variable, some rain in the afternoon.

Participation

The second FAI W/CH for F1E Slope soaring gliders PiE and the first junior W/CH in the same class were organised by the Aeroklub of Romania — and Romanian models federation. Seven countries, and total of 22 seniors and 9 juniors attended at this championships.

Competition

Organisation was good and this combined with the sincerity of the welcome arid generous hospitality of the organisers created an excellent atmosphere throughout the period of the championships. The flying standard was quite high.

Timekeeping

Without principal problems.

Opening and Closing Ceremony

The opening ceremony was in the local sporting airfield DEZMIR, near the contest site on the slopes.

F.A.I, medals and diploma and nice ceramics cups were presented at the closing banquet.

Protests

There were no official protest at this championships.

Observations

An interesting trip to the local recreation area with lunch in a nice restaurant, was organised on the last, day,

Conclusion

The second FAI World Aeromodelling championship for free flight slope soaring gliders – class F1E and first junior W/CH in the same class was very well organised. Our thanks go to. Romanian national aeroclub for the tremendous job they put into preparing and running this event.
