2017 MAX MEN INTERNATIONAL
FEBRUARY 19 & 20, 2017
LOST HILLS, CA USA
This year’s version of the Bob White Max Men International World Cup contest was postponed two days to Sunday February 19 due to heavy rain & the muddy conditions on the field that followed Friday’s downpour. We flew five rounds for F1A, B, C & Q instead of seven and we flew them on the same day. The conditions were cool, drift was light and we avoided the trees for the most part. We did however, fly most of the fly offs in a light rain. Thanks to the dedication and teamwork of all available sportsmen who jumped in to time, we got it in and had enough dry weather for a great awards presentation immediately following on Sunday!
The Mini Events were held on the Reserve Day, Monday February 20. Round one was delayed to move the line. The first two rounds were relatively calm, but the wind that was predicted came up in round three and we sometimes bounced over the 9 M/S limit during rounds three and five. F1J and F1H were settled in the first five rounds, but we were left with three competitors, Tiffaney O’Dell of the US, Richard Nouvian from France and Abraham Baruch from Israel with full scores and a tie to resolve. By this time we were pretty consistently over the limit. Chases were very long, across Holloway Road in 2 minutes. Extended flight fly offs were not a practical option and no further days were available to extend the contest. The event scores show a tie for first. The trophies were presented in the order based on a DT-Flyoff which was only slightly better than a coin toss, but was about our only “flying” option and even those flights of about a minute went a long way!
Thanks to Merry Smith and Henning Nyhegn for staffing the table all day on Sunday, all the Max Men club members in attendance and others, Jim Parker for a successful AmCup banquet, and once again Roger & Lindy Morrell for their tremendous pre-entry and on-field registration process.
The Fab Feb week has enjoyed almost perfect weather for the entire weeks for several years. This year the rain California so desperately needed did give us a challenge. Thanks to a few lucky breaks and everyone’s hard work and cooperation, Max Men was completed and for the most part, competitors left to return home happy that Lost Hills had once again provided a week of World Class competition!
Freeflight week June in Sweden
From: Per Findahl
To all friends who are planning to join the freeflight week in june in Sweden. At this moment we got a NO from the military to use the Field. We are working trying to solve the problem. We are still trying to talk to the military to get access to the Field, but its difficult. We are Also looking for an alternative Venue. So please Wait to book your tickets. We get back to you asap when we know if we can Run our contests or not.
Thanks Dept
From : Wolf-Dietrich
Roger,
by the way, I personally think your contest reporting (of course due to the contributions as well) is absolutely top and on the line especially for those who were not able to participate.
A great job done.
Thanks a lot to all.
Wolf-Dietrich
Editor: – Thanks, but it is really a team effort – we need the input from the organizers and/or their “press” people.
From Rocket Ron
Roger,
Loved the snap messages. More please!
Ok, back to radio silence.
Thank you,
Rocket
Editor : We liked doing the Snaps too – It look like a couple of people fat fingered the email and un-subbed by mistake so take care when reading them.
