Skyscraper’s Annual 2020
From: Aram
The Skyscraper’s Annual was originally scheduled for June 27-28 and the consensus on Saturday June 27th was to postpone it by two weeks due to the wind that weekend. Almost two weeks later, tropical storm Fay marched through the region raining buckets on July 10th and it was decided to fly everything on Sunday July 12.
We started at 10 am to allow people to drive in. Flight cards were returned at the end of the contest. It was windy so the max was set at 2:30; the A flyers flew to 2:00 minutes subsequently. The corn to the west is now 5-6 feet tall and we had a few corn group retrievals. Yuda Avla had the foresight to set the DT lever of his G model two groove lower, allowing it to DT at 5+ minutes to avoid DTing into the corn.
Wawaywanda has one more American Cup contest planned for September, to be run by John Clapp. ///

Editor’s Comment, I did see on the Fri evening ABC News report of “weather” in the North East and did wonder how you guys would get on. Kudos to those for running the event and those taking part.
Summer Contest – Lost Hills
From: Walt
The Summer Contest this past weekend at the Lost Hills flying site had summer like conditions. Friday test flying showed that we would have very calm conditions with a very high temperature for the weekend. We had set up at the north end of the field near a porta potty that had a heated seat according to Lindy Murrell. Several of the FAI flyers had told me they would not be coming due to the high temperature that was forecasted. I had listed several AMA events on the schedule. Jim Kelley come to fly Vintage FAI Power and had said that the heat would keep the AMA flyers at home also. Both days had very little drift which changed directions as the day went along with Saturday afternoon / evening ending with a breeze from the north. Several contestants decided not to stay for the Saturday afternoon flights. We held off the start of the seventh round due to a 110 degree reading. The star of the weekend is Noa Goldstein. She is learning very fast how to flying circle tow models and is getting excellent launches. Shlomi had a leg cramp and was not able to complete the Sunday contest. You will see two new names flying in a gas event. As Jim Parker supports the Junior team and decided to take up F1P to understand the event better. Just maybe a step to F1C when the legs give out. Henry Feistel is on the Junior F1P team for next year World Champs. Un-fortunately his model did not DT in the fourth round and was lost. The rubber contestants had issues with their rubber due to the high heat. Many broken motors along with very few strands left on used motors. We did have one person with some issues from the heat. Staying at Lost Hills was a little different as Denny’s was closed with take out only. The Days Inn rents you a room with no cleaning of the room. If you need clean towels the office will give them to you. The road construction is completed at the freeway intersection also. Overall a good weekend and looking forward to returning for the fall contest.

The flight to the ground was not used, information only
Editor’s Comment – the heated seat will not be carried over to the winter contests. And I see that I was not the only person put off by the forcasted 109 F – 42.7777777777777 C at 5 PM. Sothanks to Walt for organizing the contest, the lack of wind (200m retrievals) and of course the heated seat.
