Identification marks and 21st Century
From Urs Schaller
As I am struggling from time to time about the same argument, I took some time off from model building to put together the details.
First thing, to get the tech details you have to give a look at the General CIAM Rules going to the subtitle “Sporting Code” at
Sporting Code | World Air Sports Federation (fai.org)
then
SPORTING CODE-SECTION 4: AEROMODELLING
click on it, then to “Volume CGR – CIAM General Rules – Edition 2024”, open the download arrow to
sc4_vol_ciam_general_rules_24_0.pdf (fai.org)
and go to page 33 for
C.11 IDENTIFICATION MARKS
C.11.1 Class F – Model Aircraft
There you find how big, what and where to put your identification marks on the model.
In the specific F1 volume (Free Flight) at
sc4_vol_f1_freeflight_24_v2.pdf (fai.org)
at page 50-51, paragraph d) and e) you can check what the organiser has to control during or before the competition
Hope I didn’t miss something ??
About 21st Century. I feel the same as Roger. It’s about time that in the Specification Book for organiser of Continental and World Championships there’s the query to update at least once every day the results. It is not acceptable that on an organiser website we still find only the 1st bulletin and nothing else. I appreciate how much labour goes into the organization of such an event. But doing an update in the evening is not asked to much as in every case the results are already on a computer.

A Comment on Q Rules
By Aram Schlosberg
The following endeavors to streamline the current Q code.
.
1/ Source of energy:
Powered by 2 or 3 cell LiPos.
(The verbiage on Nicad batteries and how the battery is attached to the model are redundant.)
.
2/ The SET (static energy tester) verbiage is redundant. SETs were proposed by the US in an attempt to lure AMA flyers to fly Q models without ELs. But since ELs are mandatory and are required to be certified — the SET code is redundant and confusing. Understand that an European country (Germany?) is the last holdout.
.
3/ Motor run: 10 SECONDS PER JOULE. Flights to 2 Joule per gram. Weight over 550 grams is ignored.
.
(The relationship between Joules and motor run is not explicit. With 2 J/gr well trimmed Q models reach 90 meters in 20 second — with ample altitude for 3 or 4 minute flights.)
.
3a/ The energy multiplier can be reduced to 1.5 Joules per gram on sub 3 minute flights.
.
(This is the only innovation here, allowing a degree of flexibility during the regular rounds. This would be very useful in local contests.)
