Answer to Gil
I agree with you!
I should like to add an example, from W/Ch 1989 in Argentina : a flyer from GB team made a flight landed close to the starting line behind some bushes.
His team manager came to the FAI Jury and clamed for a max, arguing that they followed an other model!
The jury asked separately to the timekeepers what happened and they both showed the bushes.
Soon after that, the flyer came back from these bushes with his model !
We asked him: did you max?
His answer was “No I landed less than two minutes behind these bushes »
This man was Stafford Screen: a true Gentleman !
Unfortunately in free flight we have not only gentlemen…

From Allard

Hi Roger,
I think Gil’s proposal is the right one. These fly offs have become a farce and it is high time to stop this.
Lastly, go figure this : the models of the top 3 are (by rule) checked for weight(s) and surface area. Yet the flown time, which ultimately determines the final standing, is not checked. This does not make sense, no sense at all.

Allard
Hot Summer
It’s the Northern Hemisphere summer with some great flying events. In the USA the number one big event is the Nats or National Championships at Muncie that just finished. Plus locals events every where except for at Lost Hills, SCAT’s home site. That because it too hot there during the day. But we like go to other places too. Our big events start in September with a couple of biggies in October. All around the World are World Cup events and a couple continental championships, one in Romania and one in Mongolia. With all these event there are competitions with the results. Of course every event did not go 100 % for everyone but we are not going to talk about there. One thing we noticed was all the chatter on social media around what a good time that had at all the events, how good it was to see their old friends and make new ones. It reminds us how important all those people we have met through flying and how much they help us and make the flying more enjoyable. Lets’s not forget that ! and remember to thank those that organize those events we like so much.
3 Flyers, 3 emails and one more
We got an email from Gil that was in the last SEN and now one from Pierre and another from Allard. 3 very different flyers. Gil is a regular F1B flyer, Pierre one of our most respected and traditional flyers with years of experience and Allard a leading edge techno dude. All very worried how contests are going these days and Pierre saw some of it a few years back. Then on top of that I got another email, it was FFn reporting on the recent Euro Champs. It turns that probably insufficient resources were available to run an event of that size properly. We are fortunate to have available very capable people to act as jury in our major events and sometime step up to help out to make sure the event runs smoothly. Steps are being taken to correct the issues before next years World Champs at the same site. I did not figure out to much later that some of the posting on the FB about the event were from people who were officials or jury members. It would be ‘better’ to have these from an official organizer source so you knew what was official. Lots of fake or at least questionable news floating about.
Already there is a little rumbling out in the hinterland , that means people who have to make an intercontinental flight to the 2025 W Champs … do I really want to make that flight to something that is not well run? We really don’t want that to happen. We want to see all our friends
