Looking Up
From: gilbert morris
I went out flying this morning and as I was looking up there appeared a little airplane in the sky —- and it was mine!

.
B-flyers are spaced 10 meters apart and can easily figure out whether an adjacent launched model is climbing in lift. And since most B-models can top 6 minutes in calm evening conditions, the first flyoff is just a formality.
.
The organizers camp is clamoring to curtail the portion of B flyers reaching the Flyoffs.
.
The energy camp has argued that a 23 grams motor would lower B’s performance down to 5 minutes. Very roughly, removing a gram of rubber shortens the motor tube by a centimeter in the range in question. So going to a 25 gram motor would shorten the motor tube by 5 cm in every model. [1]
.
The weight camp argues that raising the net weight by 20 grams (to 220 grams) impacts both the climb and glide and that it will encourage building stronger carbon-foam wings with Textreme.
.
The altimeter camp argues that the 6-minute B-Flyoff could be an altimeter QUALIFIER if at least 9 [2] are maxed out. The top 1/3 (ranked by altitude at 6-minutes then by time) would qualify for the subsequent final 8-minute altimeter Flyoff. Otherwise the first Flyoff would be a regular 6-minute Flyoff.
.
The increase-the-drag camp (by cross sections) is archaic.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
(Full disclosure – I have a foot in the weight and altimeter Flyoff camps.)
